Ukrainian startups, despite the pandemic and the general economic downturn, attracted a record $ 571 million in investment last year. This is primarily about venture investment in national technology projects.
Most of the investment in Ukrainian startups came from global companies that see Ukraine as a country for R&D offices. The report notes that out of the total amount of investments in the seed round, Ukrainian startups received $ 42 million, and at the stage of round A – $ 119 million.
Interestingly, four companies attracted 62% of all investments in companies with Ukrainian roots in 2020: GitLab, Creatio, Restream and Airslate. The fastest growing Ukrainian startup in 2020 was Reface.io with 70 million downloads of the application since the beginning of 2020.
Mostly foreign venture funds invested in Ukrainian startups: in the seed round their share was 66% compared to 34% of Ukrainian capital, and in round A foreign investors invested even more – 89%.
